Churchward School Celebrates Anti-Bullying Week 2024
This year, Anti-Bullying Week ran from 11th to 15th November, with the theme “Choose Respect.” At Churchward School, we embraced this important theme through a week of engaging, cross-curricular activities and assemblies to help students understand the significance of respect and the impact of bullying.
The week began with a powerful assembly on Monday, setting the tone for the theme of Respect. Students reflected on the importance of choosing Respect in all aspects of their lives and the impact that small acts of kindness and understanding can have on creating a supportive community.
On Tuesday, students and staff celebrated Odd Socks Day—a fun and colorful reminder that it’s okay to be different. The day brought the whole school together in embracing individuality and respecting diversity.
To reinforce the theme of respect, teachers incorporated anti-bullying lessons across a variety of subjects:
- PSHCE and Thrive: students explored the definition of respect and engaged in discussions about how to disagree and argue respectfully. They practiced scenarios where they could express their views while considering others’ feelings.
- Art: creativity flourished as students designed artwork reflecting the theme “Choose Respect,” showcasing their interpretations of inclusivity, kindness, and understanding.
- English: literature provided a window into the themes of respect and bullying, as students analysed how characters in stories navigate conflict and disrespect.
- Science: students examined the physiological and psychological effects of bullying, fostering empathy and understanding of its real-world consequences.
- Maths: lessons highlighted the story of mathematician Alan Turing, who faced bullying and discrimination, and examined statistics related to bullying, giving students a numerical perspective on the issue.
We are proud of the thoughtful engagement demonstrated by our students and staff and remain committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
